HCEMC. 10^th August 2026 Minutes

President’s Report:

1.     Memorial Ride Sunday 13^th September. 9AM Coffee at Werai Farm Club (coffee on the club), 10AM departure for Nepean Dam arriving 11AM for a sausage sizzle. More than welcome to catch up at Nepean Dam if you can’t make the ride.

2.     X-mas party- 6^th December, booked into the Camellia Room at the Moss Vale Services Club. Partners and non-club members can come but must pay.

3.     Three-day ride October 16^th to 18^th.

a.     First day to Orbost (around 500km) via Bonang Road (few, if any trucks now!). Stay at Orbost Country Road Motel (you could stay at the Orbost Hotel- if you don’t value your life!).

b.     Second day to Corryong Mountain View Motel, via Great Alpine Way (Omeo and Mitta Mitta), with an option through Walwa if you haven’t had enough corners by then, around 400km.

c.      Final day home via Alpine Way or Elliots Way, or through Tumbarumba, 400-480km. Mick Simpson has excused himself as there are too many bends for a Harley!

4.     Sunday Coffee Rides (first Sunday of the month). A suggestion has been made we have a ‘theme’ each ride. The first such theme will be a ‘Honda’ ride. Different manufacturers will be themed each ride. This doesn’t mean you can only ride with this particular type of bike, but there will be prizes for the best bike of this type on the day. Unfortunately, it may be a while before we have a ‘Ural’ theme!!!!.

5.     Greg Roberts wrote to the club, a race meeting organised by the Classic Racing Club at One Raceway on 12-14^th March 2027. More details closer to the event for people interested in assisting.

6.     Shoalhaven Historic Vehicle Club Car and Bike Show is on Saturday 17^th October. At the Berry Showground. Entries $20, and you must be there between 7AM and 9AM. Spectators enter from 9AM. Cash only on the day!!

7.     Raffle tickets can be purchased prior to each meeting and in the first few minutes after 7PM. This is to prevent disruptions to the meeting.

Secretary’s/Safety Officer’s Report: Paul Riley

1.     First Aid kits are being priced by Highlands First Aid owner, Kiaran Drew. He will be able to provide many of the parts in bulk so we can make kits from this. The actual bags these will go in is possibly available on eBay for approx. $12.00-24.00.

2.     A defib will also be priced from various sources.

3.     Motorcycling Tips will now be included on the website and Facebook page. These will be added each week (there are almost 140 of these).

4.     The ride to Tuena Pub this coming Sunday (16^th August) will depart the Clock Tower in Moss Vale at 10AM. They aren’t open to serve all types of meals yet, but welcome us to come and we won’t go hungry. We will stop for morning tea along the way. This is a longer ride, but an enjoyable one.

5.     Safety officer talk was on Buffering. At all times we should look to create as much distance as we can to whatever the immediate threat is. This can be another vehicle in front, a vehicle behind, or a pedestrian on the side of the road, a blind corner, and when there are several threats, take the best line to create as much room as possible. There is no time to react in many situations so practising to position yourself away from threats not only gives you needed room in a dangerous situation, but it keeps your mind active and as you keep doing this, it becomes a good habit.

In Rob’s absence, Paul reported bikes for sale are now on our website. Look under Marketplace (soon to be available for mobile website too).

Let Paul know if you would like to advertise your bike. Photos can be sent with your ad.

It was suggested the club investigate creating a Facebook Marketplace site to advertise bikes for a wider audience. This will be investigated and if it doesn’t require too much work, it may be implemented.

Motorcycling Tips are now on the website as well as the Facebook page. Look under Marketplace-Parts and things.

Club members are reminded that they must:

·       Have a fully registered or club plated and roadworthy motorcycle.

·       Follow all road rules including those involving blood alcohol limits, speeding and safe passing.

The club strongly recommends:         An ATGATT approach to riding

                                                  :         On Club Rides selecting a lead and following                                                         riders

                                                  :         Having a pre-ride brief on likely road conditions                                                       and possible hazards.

·       Club Members are reminded that club rides do not finish at the destination

Upcoming Day Rides:

11 August- Dirt bike ride to Penrose and Wingello with Lunch in Marulan.

16 August- Lunch ride to Tuena (as discussed above)

26 August- (Southern Highlands !mperial Tour) Ride, 10 AM start.

30 August- 8-10AM Crash the Cars and Coffee Classics Cruise (CCCCC)

6 September- 10AM- 12PM Coffee Ride, Honda the theme for this one.

12 September- Bikes and Coffee at Werai.

14 September- Club meeting 7PM at Moss Vale Services Club.

Ride Reports-

Graeme discussed a ride seven members completed on 28^th and 29^th July. Harleys were the bike of the day, with Greg even suggesting he thought they were really good bikes and he was considering purchasing one. Several members offered their counsel on this! Although Graeme and Colin appeared to be travelling a vastly different route to the others, they seemed to always meet up at mealtime.

Other Business-

It was suggested the club investigate providing a donation to Can-Assist at some time in the future. Many were in favour of this.

Paul also suggested the club could investigate donating to the Lydia’s Legacy Project. More to be discussed on this later.

Bikes for sale: These will now be on the website to provide a much larger audience.
