Rider one: How often do you oil your chain?

Rider two: Oil????

And so the conversation goes. Many don't even realise the drive chain requires frequent

lubrication.

This is a subject many have addressed, and it is likely that as long as chains drive the majority of motorcycles, it will always provide enough fodder to confuse the majority of us.

This important piece of the mechanical function of the bike is exposed to all the rubbish on

the road and needs a little oil to keep it in top condition.

Even though a lot of the chain's crucial parts are sealed be O rings (or X rings) it certainly doesn't hurt to keep some lithium grease on the chain to prevent rusting, and keep grit out of the chain you can see.

Keeping it adjusted can lengthen the life of a chain considerably too.

As a general guide give it a light oil every 4-500km and if it is raining a lot, daily.
